KTA Steel and Concrete Group inspectors are trained to perform Precast/Prestressed Structural Concrete inspections in accordance with PCI MNL-116, “Manual for Quality Control for Plants and Production of Precast and Prestressed Concrete Products; AWS D1.1, “Structural Welding Code – Steel”; and AWS D1.4, “Structural Welding Code – Reinforcing Steel.” KTA assists clients by verifying that precast/prestressed structural units comply with project specifications. KTA’s inspection process begins with verification that built-in anchorage devices are secured to the formwork and located so they will not affect the position of main reinforcement or concrete placement. The inspector then confirms that fabrication and placement of reinforcement steel is in accordance with CRSIs, “Manual of Standard Practice” and that the pre-tensioning or post-tensioning of pre-stress tendons is in accordance with PCI MNL 116.
Prior to any pours, KTA’s inspectors verify that concrete mixes are properly proportioned by either laboratory trial batch or field test data methods in accordance with ACI 211.1 and that concrete is batch mixed in accordance with PCI MNL 116 and the requirements of the project specifications. KTA documents that the concrete is placed in continuous operation in accordance with PCI MNL 116 for the measuring, mixing, transporting, and placing of concrete. KTA witnesses fabricator quality control personnel perform required concrete testing and documents testing results.
Prior to project completion, KTA documents that the concrete casting date is imprinted on each precast/prestressed concrete unit on a surface that will not show in the finished structure and verifies that the concrete units are properly stored at the fabrication plant so that the markings remain visible and physical damage is avoided. KTA observes the fabricator’s handling practices to verify that the prestressed concrete pieces are lifted at the designated lifting and supporting points shown on the shop drawings, so that the pieces are not over stressed in tension.
KTA has demonstrated such services on the following representative projects:
