KTA Becomes an IACET Authorized Provider As a continued effort to improve our courses and provide additional benefits to our training clients, the KTA Training Service Department sought and proudly attained acceptance as an authorized provider of Continuing Education Units (CEU's) from the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) over the spring and summer 2006. IACET CEU's set the standard for courses that are taught using methods that work effectively with adults, for courses that deliver specific, measurable learning outcomes, and for courses that are logically developed and carefully assessed. In addition to the improvement of curricula and course delivery, compliance with IACET requires the protection of privacy for each trainee's records for a period of seven years. Acceptance as an IACET Provider is another example of KTA's commitment to client satisfaction and high-quality training. The Instruction Staff The KTA team of instructors includes coating failure analysts, professional engineers, chemical engineers, coating specialists, chemists, quality assurance experts, certified industrial hygienists and environmental engineers. Under the guidance of KTA's Training Department, the instructors use a combination of hands-on training, demonstrations, and technical presentations to meet training objectives. KTA's years of first-hand experience combined with membership
and leadership positions in related technical societies including SSPC,
AIHA,
ASTM,
NACE
and AWWA
translate into industry-recognized training that is always state-of-the-art. Open-Registration vs. Contract Courses While the majority of KTA's training programs are offered as open-registration courses, training is also available through private contract. Private courses can be scheduled at the client's facility or at KTA's Corporate Headquarters in Pittsburgh. For more about open-registration or private offerings, please contact Diana Knepper at dknepper@kta.com or (412) 788-1300 ext. 217. Course Listing (click on the course for description)
Federal Highway Administration/National Highway Institute Courses
KTA developed a training course for the Federal Highway Administration/National Highway Institute (NHI) entitled, "Bridge Coatings Inspection." Taught by KTA instructors, with over 30% of the course spent in workshops, the focus of this training is on inspection of surface preparation and application of protective coating systems for bridge and highway structures, including the development of site-specific inspection procedures based upon a governing specification. The course provides a basic overview of the theory of corrosion and its control, the characteristics of various bridge coating types, as well as surface preparation and coating application techniques and equipment. Sessions on understanding coating specifications and identification of coating defects are also addressed in the curriculum.
KTA developed a comprehensive training course for the Federal Highway Administration/National Highway Institute (NHI) entitled, "Hazardous Bridge Coatings." Conducted by KTA instructors, the training focuses on the removal and/or maintenance of bridge paint systems that contain lead or other hazardous materials. The secondary purpose of this course is to provide training to cover the new regulations and procedures necessary to ensure worker health and safety. The target audience of this course is all highway and transportation agency employees and private industry personnel who are responsible for development of contract specifications and procurement requirements for both the removal and/or maintenance of bridge paint systems that contain hazardous materials. Nearly half of this four-day course incorporates interactive discussions, show-and-tell demonstrations, and workshops. |
