KTA-Tator, Inc. has provided coatings inspection and evaluation services in nuclear facilities for nearly four decades. The range of services includes quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) in-process inspection of coating and lining applications for Service Level I, II, III, and balance of plant areas; performing coating condition assessment surveys; qualification of applicators; and qualification of coating systems. KTA nuclear services are provided under a QA program that meets the requirements and criteria of 10 CFR 50, Appendix B. In order to share these decades of coatings experience and expertise with others, KTA has developed a specialized nuclear inspection training curriculum.

KTA’s Nuclear Coatings Inspection Course offers five consecutive days of interactive, hands-on training for nuclear facility owners, engineers, nuclear coatings inspectors, nuclear inspection supervisors, QA and QC personnel, and coating contractors who work in existing and new facilities. The course provides the essential, nuclear-related instructional elements referenced in the ASME and ASTM standards for the plant certification of Level 1 nuclear coatings inspection personnel.

The curriculum addresses strategies for coatings operations and inspection in a nuclear power plant, including:

  • ANSI, ASME, and ASTM standards that regulate nuclear coatings operations
  • Corrosion control through coatings
  • Nuclear coating systems
  • Surface preparation and cleanliness standards
  • Coating application operations
  • Inspection of concrete surfaces
  • Nuclear coatings inspector certification
  • The coating work specification
  • Methods of preventing and correcting coating failures
