Steel Inspection

Quality assurance services are highly desirable for protecting your interests during the shop fabrication, non-destructive testing and painting stages of your project. The central element of the KTA Steel Group approach deals with using an experienced team to perform quality assurance observation of the fabrication and painting processes in order to provide a greater degree of confidence that the work conforms to the applicable codes, standards and specifications. KTA is able to provide QA for bridges (including simple, major and Fracture Critical structures), buildings, tanks and towers.

Shop inspection is not just monitoring fabrication activities to verify compliance with the plans and specs; it is also having the ability to provide experienced personnel to monitor the project schedules, and provide technical assistance in resolving problems as they occur. These same principles can also be applied to field inspection and conformance.

KTA's scope of services for a specific project may include the following Quality Assurance (QA) activities:

Shop Quality Assurance Services

• Shop Inspection – KTA shop quality assurance consists of verifying the condition of and certification of materials from the mill through fabrication. Shop inspection requires observation and verification of shop fabrication activities, including material prep, layout, drilling, fitting, welding, non-destructive testing, machining, laydown, assembly, coating and shipping. KTA Steel Group inspectors witness welder certification testing and weld procedure qualification testing. KTA personnel are Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI's), trained coatings inspectors, NACE certified inspectors and certified NDT inspectors. Our inspectors are computer literate, and generate daily inspection reports, weekly progress reports and can assist in providing information for monitoring CPM schedules.

  We have a management and technical staff that can provide consultation services to evaluate and assist the client in resolution of fabrication problems.

• Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Verification – NDT quality assurance consists of verifying that NDT is being performed in accordance with the contract requirements and the required industry standards. Our personnel are certified and have a thorough understanding of the type of NDT that is being performed, such as MT, PT, RT, UT and VT. We assure that the testing personnel have been certified in accordance to SNT-TC-1A Recommended Practice. Testing verification will be properly documented and reported to the client.

• Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Services – KTA personnel are certified in accordance to SNT-TC-1A to perform Level II MT, PT, UT, VT and Radiographic Interpretation.

• Sampling Procurement – KTA has the qualified and properly trained personnel to provide sampling of construction material, packaging for shipping to testing labs, and providing the proper documentation.

• Field Inspection – Field quality assurance services can be provided on bridges, buildings, tanks, towers and other structures. Services can be provided for structures being built new or rehabilitated. The work may include quality assurance of erection, field welding , bolting, preparation and painting. Witnessing or performing NDT, and witnessing welder and welding procedure qualification testing. KTA can also provide condition assessments of existing structures.
