Construction Inspection Service KTA has consistently supported industrial and commercial contractors through training, technical services and instrument sales for over 55 years. KTA has been working with concrete speciality contractors on a larger scale since the 1990s. KTA assists contractors during all phases of a project (concrete placement as well as coatings on concrete) from bidding assistance to site quality aspects. KTA also offers comprehensive lead paint management services. Comprehensive Service Offerings for the Concrete Industry
The Benefit of Utilizing KTA on a Project
Specifically, KTA can write/review specifications; perform specialized training in accordance with SSPC, OSHA, ACI, ICRI and concrete/coating supplier recommendations; develop/review compliance programs, QC procedures and applicable plans (i.e., surface preparation); perform third-party inspection; conduct worker/environmental monitoring; plan and conduct laboratory tests; provide training and a complete line of coating inspection instruments and standards from leading manufacturers and organizations worldwide.
Why KTA? For over 55 years, KTA has gained an industry reputation for delivering consulting engineering expertise and quality control for coatings technology. KTA General Services to the Concrete Industry Concrete Inspection KTA inspectors observe and document concrete construction-related items during both fabrication and repair. Inspection experience includes floors, walls, footers, tilt-up, slabs, precast panels, inlets, manholes, box culvents and lagging, along with fabrication of prestressed concrete bridge members. The inspectors are fully equipped with all of the necessary field instrumentation to provide thorough surveillance. Comprehensive documentation is prepared daily detailing job quality and progress. This close oversight enables the inspectors to identify potential problems and recommend solutions before the work progresses to a point where costly rework is required. KTA concrete inspectors are ACI and PCI certified. Virtually all KTA inspectors are trained and qualified in accordance with programs established and presented by NACE International (NACE International Coating Inspector Training and Certification Program NICITCP). In September 2001, KTA became the first firm to be certified under SSPC QP-5 Standard Procedure for Evaluating the Qualifications of Coatings and Lining Inspection Companies. Environmental Compliance The management of hazardous paint removal presents significant environmental challenges to contractors; challenges that frequently cause major disruptions to many projects. KTA offers services to assist contractors in meeting these challenges and ensure seamless progress of projects. Environmental services include the assessment of hazardous material content of a coating system; specification development, submittal review and containment design review; on-site environmental monitoring and surveys; documentation of waste streams management; ambient monitoring siting and rental services; laboratory analysis of paint chip, soils, waste and ambient air monitor filter media. Safety and Industry Hygiene - KTA industrial hygienists, safety professionals and industry hygiene technicians, along with in-house support from chemical, mechanical and environmental engineers, have extensive experience in a wide array of safety and industrial hygiene areas. Through its traditional industrial hygiene services, KTA assists customers in the recognition, evaluation and control of worker health hazards, maintenance of safe working environments, and compliance with regulatory statutes. Traditional safety services, however, involve identifying and properly controlling the safety hazards associated with industrial and construction worksites. KTA also investigates indoor air quality and mold concerns, offers independent assessments of existing or proposed safety and health programs, and conducts a variety of courses. Laboratory Services The Company maintains a well-equipped physical testing and analytical laboratory, which includes such instrumentation as a GC, IC, HPLC, GC-MS, SEM/EDS, DSC, FTIR (including ATR), AA/AE, a Tinius Olsen Universal Testing Machine, optical microscopes with microphotography capabilities, and complete wet bench chemistry facilities. KTA also conducts TCLP per EPA Method 1311, is an AIHA ELLAP Accredited Laboratory for paint chip and soil analyses, and performs ambient air quality analyses for PM-10 and TSP. Accelerated testing equipment in the KTA laboratory includes salt fog and humidity cabinets, immersion tanks, Atlas cells, QUV, KTAs patented Envirotest, a cyclic corrosion chamber (Q-Fog cabinet) for Prohesion testing, ultraviolet light chambers, abrasion, cathodic disbonding apparatus, and others. Indoor Blast Cleaning and Painting Facility - KTA has an indoor walk-in blast cleaning room and airless and conventional spray painting facilities suitable for training and application of all types of coatings. The Company also maintains a complete supply of test panels and test racks. Coatings and Environmental Training - The KTA team of instructors
uses a combination of hands-on training, demonstrations, and technical
presentations to meet the needs of contractors with training programs
that are state-of-the-art. The majority of KTAs training courses
are offered as open-registration courses but are also available through
private contract. Course offerings include: Basic Coatings Inspection,
Coatings Inspection Instrument Training, Shop Painting Practices, Quality
Control for Coating Operations, SSPC C-3: Supervisor/Competent Person,
QP-2 Competent Person Refresher, OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, Worker
Lead/Other Toxic Metals, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space (Entrant,
Attendant & Supervisor), and Fall Protection.
