Jessica Steele has been with the KTA Training Department since January 2010 and has over 14 years of experience in education. In this position, she is responsible for the development, maintenance, promotion, and implementation of KTA’s internal and external training products. This includes training product development, updating training materials, instructor skill development/refinement, scheduling of course offerings and instructors, marketing of courses, interfacing with clients and course participants, issuing/maintaining training records and maintaining KTA’s IACET Accreditation. Jessica holds a B.S. and Master’s in Education
from The Pennsylvania State University as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from Waynesburg University.
Richard A. Burgess – Senior Consultant

Rich Burgess is a Senior Consultant for KTA where he has been employed for over 18 years. Rich is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, an SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person for Deleading of Industrial Structures, is a principal instructor for the SSPC C-1, C-3, and C-5 courses, and is an approved instructor for the NACE CIP Program. He also serves as an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars. In his current position, Rich performs coatings evaluations, coating failure analysis, specification preparation, expert witness, and project management services for clients in the transportation, power generation, water/wastewater, shipping, marine, and aerospace industries. He has served as Project Manager/Inspector Supervisor on projects that involved surface preparation and repainting of highway bridges for DOTs and has performed coating evaluation assessments for ground and elevated potable water storage tanks. William D. Corbett – Professional Services Group Manager

Bill Corbett is the Professional Services Group Manager for KTA where he has been employed for over 30 years. Bill is an SSPC Certified Protective Coating Specialist, a NACE International Certified Coatings Inspector – Peer Review, an SSPC Level 2 Certified Bridge Coatings Inspector and an SSPC Level 2 Certified Protective Coatings Inspector. He is also the author of the publication “Using Coatings Inspection Instruments.” In his current position, he is responsible for the technical and business aspects of the KTA Professional Services Strategic Business Unit which includes the coatings consulting, laboratory, training, environmental health & safety, and surveys departments. Bill also serves as the Special Projects Manager for the KTA Laboratory. He is a primary author and instructor of several KTA and other industry association training courses for a variety of industries in both the private and public sector. Jayson L. Helsel, P.E. – Senior Consultant

Jay Helsel is a Senior Coatings Consultant with KTA where he has been employed for over 10 years. He is a registered Professional Engineer in numerous states, and he is also a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review). Jay has extensive marine and shipboard experience having served 11 years in the Coast Guard, most recently as a Lieutenant Commander in the area of Marine Vessel Inspection. At KTA, he has managed the field investigations and laboratory analyses of coating failure cases, including those of a major automobile manufacturer and luxury home developer. Jay has also been involved with coating condition assessments, inspections of industrial structures, and contractor painting submittal reviews. He serves as a principal instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training courses and has authored numerous technical articles in industry publications. Rick Huntley is the Manager of Consulting Services and a Senior Coatings Consultant for KTA where he has been employed for over 20 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review) and an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist. In his current position, Rick is responsible for managing a staff of coating consultants which involves technical review of proposals/reports, project management, and budget analysis. He also performs consulting activities that include coating failure analysis, coating condition assessments, coating system recommendations and specification preparation, and research project management. Rick has consulted on major marine coating projects, bridge coating projects, condominium and housing project rehabilitations, and parking garage renovations. He has also conducted coating specification review for highway departments, water districts, A&E firms, and various manufacturers. Alison B. Kaelin is the KTA Corporate Quality Assurance Manager & Senior Consultant. She has been with the company for over 18 years overseeing work related to environmental compliance, health and safety, and overall corporate quality assurance. She also continues to serve as project manager/client liaison on quality managment, unique or multi-disciplinary projects. Ms. Kaelin has nearly 25 years of public health, environmental, health and safety, transportation and construction management experience. She is an SSPC Technical Achievement Award winner. She is an ASQ – Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), an ANSI/ASME N45.2.23 Lead Quality Auditor, a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), and an EPA-certified Method 9 Visible Emission Evaluator. She also services as a principal instructor for a variety of KTA and SSPC-offered training course. Stan Liang is the Director of Safety & Health for KTA where he has been employed for 12 years. Stan is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional with over 20 years performing industrial hygiene air monitoring, conducting job safety analysis, developing safety programs (including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and emergency response plans), and presenting safety training and OSHA compliance audits. He provides comprehensive CIH services, industrial hygiene surveys and mold/indoor air quality investigations. He is a Certified Environmental Trainer/OSHA Construction Outreach Program Trainer and serves as the primary instructor for KTA’s safety and industrial hygiene training and the 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety course. He has also provided comprehensive safety and industrial hygiene audits of contractor work practices on major bridge repainting projects in New York City and the surrounding areas. Jim Machen is a Senior Coatings Consultant with KTA where he has been employed for over 20 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, and is a Level II Inspector in accordance with in accordance with ASTM D4537. In his current position, Jim performs consulting activities (i.e., coating failure analysis, coating system recommendations, specification preparation, and major project management) for a variety of clients in the transportation, water and waste, power generation, chemical processing, and marine industries. His specification development experience includes the preparation of technical painting specifications for numerous water and chemical storage tanks, bridges, and other heavy industrial, commercial, and architectural applications. Jim serves as a principal instructor for several in-house KTA coatings training seminars for private and public companies. Daniel A. O’Malley – Manager-Environmental Health & Safety Group

Dan O’Malley is the Manager of the EH&S Group for KTA where he has been employed for over 16 years. In this position, Dan serves EH&S clients (while also assisting other KTA departments on multi-disciplinary projects) by reviewing/developing safety and health programs, facilitating/evaluating laboratory results, preparing proposals, developing specifications for removal of coatings containing lead and other toxic metals, performing ambient monitoring activities (i.e., site evaluation), scheduling staff and consulting on industrial hygiene and safety issues. Dan is an SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person for Industrial Deleading Projects and has 10 hours of OSHA Construction Hazard Awareness Training. He has conducted air quality monitoring for lead, asbestos, and other hazardous materials, has served as on-site industrial hygienist on lead paint removal projects, and serves as an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars. An experienced Industrial Hygienist, Dan has also conducted industrial hygiene surveys for insurance companies and waste treatment, industrial and manufacturing facilities. Douglas J. Reardon – Steel Group Operations Manager

Doug Reardon is the Steel Group Operations Manager for KTA where he has been employed for over 25 years. In this position, Doug serves as a Senior Project Manager for structural steel fabrication projects for various transportation clients nationwide in addition to assisting the field inspection staff with technical report reviews, scheduling, and project updates/status reports. He is an AWS Certified Welding Inspector; NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), a Level II inspector in accordance with ASTM D4537, and is an AWS Certified RT Film Interpreter. Prior to his current assignment, he was a KTA Project Management Specialist and for 13 years, provided construction supervision and paint/insulation services to Bayer Corporation at its New Martinsville, West Virginia plant. E. Bud Senkowski, P.E. – Senior Consultant

Bud Senkowski is a Senior Consultant with KTA where he has been employed from over 16 years. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in several states; a Certified Nuclear Coatings Engineer; and is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review). As a Senior Consultant, Bud performs paint failure analysis and corrective recommendations, laboratory and field paint testing, specification writing/review, coating application inspection, and training of inspectors and coating personnel. He has over 35 years of coating engineering, inspection, training, and project management experience with KTA and previously with Philadelphia Electric Company and Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. He also has an extensive background in the engineering, application, and inspection of coatings and linings used in nuclear and fossil-based service water and chemical storage facilities, and he is the primary instructor for KTA’s Nuclear Inspection training course. Valerie D. Sherbondy – Senior Chemist

Valerie Sherbondy is a Senior Chemist for KTA where she has been employed for 20 years. She is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist and has worked on hundreds of coating failure analysis projects in addition to conducting and supervising numerous product testing programs. Val routinely provides technical support to the KTA Pittsburgh consulting staff, as well as to all of the region offices. She also serves as the Laboratory Quality Assurance Officer, overseeing the A2LA and NELEC accreditations of the laboratory. Val is a member of the American Chemical Society, the SSPC: Society for Protective Coatings, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). She is also a committee chair for NACE International and an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars. Kenneth A. Trimber is the President of KTA-Tator, Inc. and is directly responsible for the overall operation, performance, and success of the company. Ken has been employed by KTA since 1968, where he worked on a part-time basis until his graduation from college. With over 30 years of experience in the industrial painting field, he serves as a senior consultant and client liaison on many multi-disciplinary projects as well as a principal specification writer/reviewer. Ken is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review) and is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist. He serves as a principal instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars, and he was selected by the JPCL in 2009 as one of 25 Top Leaders and Thinkers in the Coatings & Linings Industry for the past 25 years.
