Eric
S. Kline
Eric Kline, Vice President and Senior Consultant for
KTA, holds a BS in Chemistry and an MBA. He is an SSPC Certified Protective
Coatings Specialist. Mr. Kline is responsible for the overall management of
business development as well as shop inspection and water storage tank efforts
by the company.
Prior to employment with KTA, he was the General Manager
of Operations for Fort Pitt Bridge, Division of Spang Industries. Fort Pitt
Bridge was a major supplier of fabricated structural steel for new and rehabilitated
highway and railroad bridges, power plants, ad commercial structures in Pennsylvania
and surrounding states. The Company furnished over 35,000 tons of structural
steel per year. As a Senior Coatings Consultant at KTA, Mr. Kline has been involved
in the design and management of high profile bridge rehabilitation projects.
He is an instructor in many of the KTA training programs.
Mr. Kline has authored and presented papers on the subject of lead-based paint.
He has moderated coatings related seminars at many regional and national meetings,
including the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD), TRB, IBC,
WSBS, and SSPC. His paper (co-authored with W. D. Corbett), "Beneficial Procrastination:
Delaying Lead Paint Removal Projects by Upgrading the Coating System," was awarded
the 1992 Outstanding Publication Award from SSPC. He presented a paper (co-authored
with R. A. Burgess), "Are You Sure You Really Want to be in the Painting Business?,"
at the 1992 SSPC National Conference. Mr. Kline co-authored a paper entitled
"Replacing Steel vs. Removing Lead Paint: Connecticut's Experience/Analysis
of Steel Replacement as an Option" with L. Brian Castler of CONNDOT for the
1994 Lead Paint Symposium in Greenwich, Connecticut. This paper was subsequently
published in the Journal of Protective Coatings and Linings (July 1994). He
also presented a paper entitled "Economics of Overcoating" at the SSPC 1994
National Conference in Atlanta in November 1994.
Mr. Kline is an active member of SSPC, and Past President of the Pittsburgh
Chapter. He is a member of the SSPC Task Group for Shop Painting Certification,
Chairman of the SSPC Subcommittee on Contractor Certification, and Co-Chairman
of the SSPC Task Force for the Certification of Inspection Agencies. He also
services on several SSPC committees, including the Education Committee. Mr.
Kline is a member of NACE International. He is also a member of the American
Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) Committee 15,
Subcommittee 8, Painting and Special Construction, and the AASHTO/NSBA Collaboration,
where he chairs Committee TG-8 on Coatings. He is a member of the International
Bridge Conference Executive Committee and served as General Chairman in 1996.
The American Arbitration Association has appointed Mr. Kline to the Panel of
Arbitrators.
